Detecting Spatiotemporal Dynamics and Driving Patterns in Forest Fragmentation with a Forest Fragmentation Comprehensive Index (FFCI): Taking an Area with Active Forest Cover Change as a Case Study

چکیده

Forests play an irreplaceable role in preserving soil and water, as well realizing carbon neutrality. However, logging urban expansion have caused widespread forest fragmentation globally, resulting biodiversity loss emissions. Therefore, it is a prerequisite to develop comprehensive index for evaluating the degree of propose effective policies protection restoration. In this study, (FFCI) was constructed through principal component analysis (PCA) based on land-use data from 2000 2020 Fujian Province, composed five commonly used landscape metrics: patch density (PD), largest (LPI), mean area (MPA), aggregation (AI), division. Then, semivariogram function moving windows method were employed explore scale effect spatiotemporal variations FFCI. The spatial autocorrelation distinguish relationship fragmentation, while driving mechanisms explored using geographic detector (GD). results show that optimal reflect window 3500 m. proposed FFCI could explain more than 85% information all metrics, effectivity validated by urban–rural gradient transect analysis. We also found that, despite having highest coverage China, Province has experienced severe fragmentation. High medium accounted over 50% types with decreasing trends low very increasing high time, indicating study aggravated time. Characterisation of Landscape with Forest Fragmentation Dynamics

Land cover (LC) and land use (LU) dynamics induced by human and natural processes play a major role in global as well as regional patterns of landscapes influencing biodiversity, hydrology, ecology and climate. Changes in LC features resulting in forest fragmentations have posed direct threats to biodiversity, endangering the sustainability of ecological goods and services. Habitat fragmentatio...

detecting forest fragmentation with morphological image processing in golestan national park in northeast of iran

fragmentation, or breaking apart of habitats, is one of the major causes of decline in biological diversity. mature ecosystems, especially dense forests are very sensitive to this phenomenon and roads are one of the major causes of fragmentation in forest landscapes. present investigation aims to trace landscape fragmentation in dense forests of golestan national park in northeast of iran betwe...

Thermokarst rates intensify due to climate change and forest fragmentation in an Alaskan boreal forest lowland.

Lowland boreal forest ecosystems in Alaska are dominated by wetlands comprised of a complex mosaic of fens, collapse-scar bogs, low shrub/scrub, and forests growing on elevated ice-rich permafrost soils. Thermokarst has affected the lowlands of the Tanana Flats in central Alaska for centuries, as thawing permafrost collapses forests that transition to wetlands. Located within the discontinuous ...

Forest Fragmentation and Driving Forces in Yingkou, Northeastern China

Forest fragmentation, the process of changing original large and intact forest patches into smaller and isolated areas, significantly influences the balance of surface physical environment, biodiversity, and species richness. Sufficient knowledge of forest fragmentation is necessary to maintain ecological balance and promote sustainable resource utilization. This study combines remote sensing, ...

Forest Landscape in Europe: Pattern, Fragmentation and Connectivity Forest Landscape in Europe: Pattern, Fragmentation and Connectivity

The JRC demonstrated the feasibility to assess and report in a harmonized manner, forest landscape pattern and fragmentation in Europe, on the basis of an easily reproducible set of indices. Results were used in the Forest EUROPE, UN ECE and FAO joint ministerial reporting process on the protection of forests in Europe where data on forest pattern do not exist from national forest inventories. ...
